On June 24, the educational program “DESMOI. Mapping Stories that Connect Us to Evros”, implemented in collaboration with Diazoma Association, concluded with its final event.

Through digital maps and geospatial storytelling, students from across Greece – Evros, Kalamata, Tripoli, Thessaloniki, Athens, Eastern Attica and Pella – explored the natural and cultural heritage of the Evros region. The program aimed to reveal the geographic, historical and cultural connections that link different parts of Greece to this significant border area.

Roads, rivers, forests, caves, fortresses, Byzantine churches, refugee settlements, archaeological museums, local agricultural products, oak forests of Evros affected by fires, and decorative motifs from Evros folk art all became the raw material for weaving geographic, historical, cultural and emotional ties.

Students’ work is available in the program’s Digital Library at desmoievros.gr/category/geo-afigiseis.

Spotin extends heartfelt thanks to the Diazoma Association, Mr. Christos Chiotis and especially to Ms Mary Belogiannis (Educational Programs Manager) for their support, as well as to Mr. Nikolaos Christodoulou from the Institute of Educational Policy for his presence at the closing ceremony.

Special mention to all educators and students who brought this program to life with their creativity and dedication.
