DESMOI
“Mapping Stories that connect us to Evros"
(in collaboration with “Diazoma” Association)
School Year: 2024 – 2025
Description
The educational program “DESMOI. Mapping Stories that connect us to Evros”, proposed by the “Diazoma” Association and Spotin, harnesses the power of digital maps and geo-storytelling, with the aim of highlighting stories that connect students from all over Greece to Evros.
These stories can be related to elements of natural or cultural heritage (both tangible and intangible), history, geography, gastronomy, art. For example:
– What connects a student from Kalamata with a student from Soufli? (a silk scarf)
– What connects a student from Thessaloniki with a student from Alexandroupoli? (Via Egnatia)
– What connects a student from Prespes with a student from Dikea? (they both have one of the three “Tri-national Points” of Greece in their region)
– What connects a student from Mandoudi in Northern Evia with a student from Dadia in Evros? (the pine forest, a source of life and economy that was devastated by the catastrophic wildfire)
The technological tools to be used are provided to schools free of charge.
All stories will be collected in a digital library, fully accessible on the program’s platform.
Benefits of participation:
- Raising awareness, communication and collaboration with students from schools in Evros
- Experiential and discovery-based learning
- Use of new technologies, creation of digital maps
- Enhancement of digital and spatial skills for both educators and students
- Contribution of the school community to highlighting and protecting the natural and cultural wealth of the region
